about the project

The Shelter From the Storm Project was born through an act of kindness. After reading about the collapse of a kennel ceiling at our shelter during Hurricane Isobel, someone with construction experience and a big heart offered us his help. The problems of the building and property were evaluated and a committee of volunteers was formed by the employees of Tim Schaeffer Communities.

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, the scope of the project has grown to encompass complete renovations to our aging and outdated facility. However, we still can't reach all of our goals without the support of you, our neighbors.

Phase 1 has already been completed! Click here to read more about what we've accomplished so far, or read on to see what's ahead...

Emergency repairs have already begun. However, in order to meet all of our goals, we need the continuing support of building contractors, suppliers and tradespeople. Please to email our project coordinator or call our SFSP hotline at 856-767-2776 if you may be able to help in this capacity.

Even if you have no experience in construction, we need your help!

Roll Up Your Sleeves! Tell us what your experience is so that we can place you most effectively. We need everything from people who can swing a hammer to people who can transport and care for animals during projects. If you can provide unskilled labor for our projects, please send an email to with your name and address, and please describe any special abilities or interests which might be useful.

Feed the Troops. Several intensive work weekends are planned, and our crews will be working up an appetite. Do you make or supply doughnuts or bagels? Are you a Caterer or Deli-person who is willing to provide food and beverages? If you can supply breakfast- and lunch-type food, coffee, cocoa, tea, soda, or whatever…we need you.

Provide Funding. Materials cost money, and we need lots of support for these projects. If you can’t Roll Up Your Sleeves or Feed the Troops, we welcome any donations you are able to make.

Click here to make a donation online which will be earmarked for the AAC Renovation Fund. If you prefer to make your donation by check, please make all checks payable to "the AAC Renovation Fund" and send them to Animal Adoption Center, P.O. Box 4017, Lindenwold, NJ, 08021.

We all have the same goal – to create a warm, safe, secure place for our pets to live until they find their families and go on to their real homes. Please help us make a difference in any way you can. No gift is too small.
